Hi, I’m Sarah Dee

I’m an Australian female poet, educator and speaker living in regional NSW, with a simple belief: poetry belongs to everyone.

For too long, poetry has been treated as something to be analysed, graded, judged and awarded — as if it’s only for those who are “good at it.”

I want to challenge that.

Poetry can be messy, funny, uncomfortable, healing, playful and ordinary. It helps us create, process, connect and find language for what we can’t quite say.

“You don’t need to call yourself a poet to write it.”

I’m the author of Characteristics of a Modern Muse, a collection about creativity, self-doubt and making things anyway, and Maybe It’s Melpomene, which explores my experience of mental health through poetry.

As an educator, I’ve spent years watching what happens when people are given permission to experiment instead of trying to get it “right.” That belief now underpins everything I do beyond the classroom.

I founded Poet & Pour to create that space for women: beautiful, welcoming creative experiences where the rulebook can take the afternoon off.

Through my books, speaking and live events, my work returns to one idea:

Your voice does not need permission to matter.

And maybe — just maybe — you need poetry more than you think.
